Nicklas Nielsen back on the WEC podium after tough Texas race
The Danish Ferrari factory driver returned to the World Championship podium after a challenging and relentless six-hour race at Circuit of The Americas in Texas.
Round six of the FIA World Endurance Championship began under the toughest conditions seen so far in the 2025 season. Heavy rain required a safety car in the opening hour of the six-hour World Championship race at Circuit of The Americas, before a red flag interrupted proceedings and sent all cars to the main straight for regrouping after a technical error from Race Control.
Nicklas Nielsen shared the #50 Ferrari 499P with Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina, starting from fourth place in the Hypercar class. When the race was finally restarted and went green, it quickly became clear that survival and error-free running would be the keys to success in the treacherous wet conditions.
“It was probably the most difficult race we have ever experienced. With numerous yellow flags, safety cars and interruptions, this was one of those races where simply making it to the finish felt like a miracle,” said Nicklas Nielsen.
Despite the hot yet wet and slippery conditions, the Danish driver and his teammates kept their cool – and in the final hour, as the rain eased off, the track dried up and the battle intensified, the trio remained firmly in contention for victory.
While victory eventually went to the Porsche factory team, Nielsen, Fuoco and Molina secured a strong second place. It was the crew’s third podium of the 2025 season and a result that brings them closer to the top three in the overall championship standings.
“As the race unfolded, we hoped to achieve a bit more, but second place at the end of such a race with extremely difficult weather conditions is a great result because we made no mistakes and were able to maximize the car’s potential. We leave Texas with many valuable championship points and look ahead with optimism to the final two rounds of the season,” Nielsen added.
Round seven of the FIA World Endurance Championship – the penultimate round of the world championship – will take place at Japan’s Fuji Speedway on September 28.
