This is the current overview of the DERF Alerts, Calls and Grants since May 2017. The overview will be updated after each call and application assessment process.
The Alert Note is well prepared with attached documentation and links to information on the experienced crisis situation. It is assessed that a humanitarian crisis is indeed unfolding in the area and would be eligible for DERF funding of responses. Unfortunately, the alert is rejected due to insufficient funds in the DERF. The DERF will be able to respond to new crisis alerts in 2019.
The protracted conflict between the rival warring sub-clans who reside in Las Anod and surrounding areas in Sool region dates back to 2004 which started over a mere hijacking of vehicle ferrying Khat that lead to deaths of civilians from the warring sub-clans and has led to subsequent conflict of emanating from unresolved disputes, resource and sharing since then.
