NorthSide nominated for international environmental award

A field of 16 festivals has been narrowed down to five, who are eligible to win The Green Operations Award at the European Festival Awards 2014

In November, the people behind the European Festival Awards put NorthSide on a shortlist along with 15 other festivals, who were all potential candidates to win this year's Green Operations Award. Now the list has been narrowed to a field of five nominees - a field that includes NorthSide.

The European Festival Awards has since 2009 given out awards to the best and most progressive European festivals, and each year The Green Operations Award highlights festivals that focus on the environment and on sustainable developments and help push the festival industry in a positive direction.

The award has previously gone to festivals in both Sweden and Norway, but it has never gone to a Danish festival. However, that may change when the European Festival Awards are handed out this January.

- We were already pretty proud just to have made it to the jury's shortlist. So that we are now among the five nominees, who can actually win this year's Green Operations Award, is pretty crazy. We are clearly the youngest festival in the bunch, so it's a huge pat on the back that after so few years people around Europe are already willing to reward us for our hard work with waste sorting, recycling, and our focus on organic food and green transport.

So says spokesman for NorthSide, John Fogde, who hopes to soon be able to put a Green Operations Award on the shelf next to the A Greener Festival Award, NorthSide won earlier this year.

The suspense will be relieved, when the European Festival Awards are presented at an award show during the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen in the Netherlands on January 14th.

NorthSide 2015 can be experienced in Aarhus, Denmark on the 12th - 14th of June, and tickets can be purchased via Billetlugen.dk.
