Arlington High School Teacher Selected for Unique Creativity Internship in Africa

Boston, MASSACHUSETTS [March 12, 2024] - Adam Gooder, an accomplished arts educator at Arlington High School in Massachusetts, has been selected from hundreds of applicants worldwide to participate in the prestigious Aiducatius Creativity Internship in The Gambia. Arlington High School has had a long-time commitment to international education, underscored by its partnership with Educatius, a leading international student exchange organization. This internship is part of Educatius' commitment to fostering global connections and supporting access to education.

In June, Adam will join a small but talented group of youth and adult interns, to participate in a cultural exchange that promises to enrich both the lives of the students at St. Martin's Basic Cycle School in The Gambia and the interns themselves. Adam’s extensive experience in teaching a variety of creative arts have set him apart as an ideal candidate for this unique opportunity.

"I have been devoted to the arts since I was in grade school,” Adam expressed his enthusiasm. “I feel strongly that art making should connect students to each other, their community, and the world. I also believe in students finding their artistic voice while collaborating in groups with each other, teaching them how to listen to each other's ideas and points of view, to lead as well as support one another.”

The Aiducatius Creativity Internship, facilitated by Educatius in partnership with St. Martin's School in the Gambia, offers a two-week creativity experience in mid-June, where selected participants will lead creative and artistic activities with students and teachers. The program also includes visits to local artisans, and immersion in the vibrant and welcoming culture of this west African nation.

St. Martin's School, supported by Aiducatius since 2009, serves over a thousand students in Kartong, The Gambia, providing essential resources like books, school bags, and uniforms, thanks to the contributions of Educatius students and parents. This partnership exemplifies Educatius’ vision of promoting education and cultural exchange to build a brighter future for students around the world, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal of Quality Education.

The Educatius community celebrates Adam Gooder's selection for this international opportunity, which not only showcases his exceptional talent but also highlights Arlington High School’s international student program and role in preparing students for global citizenship.

This internship highlights the power of education and creativity to connect people across diverse cultures and borders. For Massachusetts families who would like to bring a new culture to their homes, Educatius offers the opportunity to host international exchange students from all over the world.
