Elephant Parade arrives in Nottingham

A HERD of more than 30 elephant statues has today (6 January) arrived at intu Victoria Centre and intu Broadmarsh as part of a pioneering national tour.

Elephant Parade, the world’s largest open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues that seeks to raise public awareness and support for Asian elephant conservation, will make its first visit to Nottingham after a series of trailblazing public art expos held in top cities across the world including Singapore, Milan, Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and London.

The herd will be on display at both centres, as well as the Nottingham Tourism Centre, throughout January and will include six smaller elephants designed by local school children.

Students from Nottingham Academy, St John’s Primary School and West Bridgford School took part in a nationwide art competition – competing for the chance to have their designs commissioned onto six half sized elephant statues which will join the herd for their local leg of the tour, standing shoulder to shoulder with the work of top artists and celebrities.

The winners from each school will be there to greet their elephants on Monday at intu Victoria Centre at 4pm, alongside the other tour elephants.

Official sponsor of the tour, intu, has worked with Elephant Parade to bring a herd of vibrant and colourful elephant statues to the city as part of its first ever nationwide tour, visiting 14 of its shopping centres across the UK in support of The Asian Elephant Foundation.

Elephant Parade is a social enterprise with a unique combination of art, business and conservation. The Asian Elephant Foundation auction and sell the statues to raise funds to support for various elephant conservation projects.
