Press release -
New data shows significant change in minimum wage landscape across EU
As Europe faces ongoing economic challenges and evolving labour needs, the minimum wage landscape across the EU is also undergoing notable changes. From January 2024 to January 2025, the pace of nominal wage increases has generally slowed compared to the previous year. However, central and eastern Member States have seen significant wage hikes, contrasting with the more moderate adjustments in the west. This evolving scenario is the central focus of the latest episode of Eurofound Talks.
In the episode, host Mary McCaughey sits down with Eurofound expert Carlos Vacas Soriano to explore the implications of these shifts. The recent adjustments in minimum wage levels highlight the diverse responses from Member States to ongoing economic pressures, as well as the influence of the EU Adequate Minimum Wages Directive, Vacas Soriano notes.
Listeners are invited to dive into the intricacies of Europe's minimum wage dynamics and the factors driving these changes. The conversation also sheds light on the broader implications of minimum wage change for income inequalities and gender equality.
