Film i Väst Co-Production Fjord Wins the Palme d’Or in Cannes
Film i Väst’s co-production Fjord by Cristian Mungiu was awarded the Palme d’Or, the top prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, earlier tonight. The film is one of three co-productions from Film i Väst selected for the 2026 festival, where both Fjord by Cristian Mungiu and Gentle Monster by Marie Kreutzer competed in the main competition, while The End by Niki Lindroth von Bahr participated in the Short Film Competition.
“This is incredibly exciting and a strong confirmation of the quality and international strength of the co-productions we help make possible. We are very proud to be part of Fjord and congratulate the director, the producers, and the entire team behind the film,” says Kristina Börjeson, Head of Production at Film i Väst.
Fjord is a Romanian-French-Norwegian-Swedish-Danish-Finnish co-production produced by Mobra Films, Eye Eye Pictures and Why Not Productions in co-production with the Swedish production companies Filmgate Films (Sean Wheelan), Garagefilm International (Mimmi Spång), Film i Väst and others. Post-production in Region Västra Götaland was carried out by Filmgate VFX.
