Official Restauration & Norway Lunch Reception - New York

Event date 10 October 2025 11:30 – 14:00

Location New York

On behalf of Rogaland County and partners, we have the pleasure of inviting selected media and journalists to a unique celebration in New York City, marking 200 years of historic ties between Norway and the United States.

This special occasion coincides with the arrival of Restauration, a faithful replica of the original ship that in 1825 carried the first group of Norwegian emigrants across the Atlantic to New York.

For more information about the Restauration voyage, visit Restauration Project and Region Stavanger Blog.

Program Highlights:

  • Exclusive Arrival Experience: Join us for the momentous arrival of the Restauration into New York Harbor. Meet the captain and crew, and hear their stories from the transatlantic crossing.

  • Discover Rogaland & Fjord Norway: Learn more about Rogaland as a destination and enter a raffle for the chance to join a FAM trip to Rogaland and Fjord Norway. Meet representatives from Visit Haugesund, Visit Ryfylke and Visit Region Stavanger.

  • Lunch & Networking: Enjoy fine food and drinks while connecting with Norwegian representatives and fellow guests.

  • Intimate Concert: Experience a private performance by Kaizers Orchestra, Norway’s leading rock band. They are playing their main concert in Town Hall later that evening.

About Restauration and the historic journey

On July 4, 1825, 52 Norwegians set sail on the original Restauration, making the first organized migration from Norway to North America. Their journey sparked a wave of emigration—nearly 900,000 Norwegians would follow in their footsteps. Today, nearly five million people in North America proudly claim Norwegian ancestry.

The Crossings200 project commemorates this bicentennial, celebrating the enduring bonds between Norway, the United States, and Canada.

The 2025 voyage retraces the presumed route of 1825, with stops in Falmouth (England), Funchal (Madeira), the Bahamas, Wilmington, Atlantic City, and New Jersey, before arriving in New York on October 9.
