The Swedish Armed Forces exercise with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Stockholm Archipelago during Archipelago Endeavour 2025

On the 3rd of September, the Swedish Armed Forces invite media representatives to observe training activities in the Stockholm Archipelago as part of Archipelago Endeavour 2025 (AE25).

The event offers a unique opportunity to follow the exercise up close, gain insight into the development of future amphibious warfare, and experience the latest technology firsthand.

Archipelago Endeavour 2025 (AE25) is an annual naval exercise where Swedish and U.S. Marine forces train side by side in an archipelagic environment. The aim is to develop combined combat capabilities, strengthen interoperability, and enhance collective readiness in times of peace, crisis, and conflict.

For the Royal Swedish Navy and Sweden’s amphibious forces, AE25 represents a strategically important example of international capability development. The exercise also enhances NATO’s ability to conduct operations in coastal and archipelagic environments in the Baltic Sea region.

Participants at the press briefing:

  • Chief of the Royal Swedish Navy, Rear Admiral Johan Norlén
  • Commander of the Stockholm Marine Regiment, Colonel David Saflind
  • Commanding General, 2nd Marine Division, Major General Farrel Sullivan
  • Commanding Sergeant Major, 2nd Marine Division, Sergeant Major Joeseph Mendez

Additional opportunities to interview battalion commanders, subject-matter experts, and soldiers from both nations will also be available.

Additional Information

The Stockholm Marine Regiment operates where sea meets land, serving as a strategic link between naval and land forces. With small, highly trained units, fast assault craft, naval mines, missiles, and mortars, the regiment is the Swedish Armed Forces’ primary resource for defending Sweden’s coastal and archipelagic areas.

The Swedish Navy has long maintained a close and extensive cooperation with the United States Marine Corps, and AE25 is a clear manifestation of this partnership. The exercise contributes to enhanced interoperability, the development of new capabilities, and a shared readiness to operate alongside NATO allies in the region.

This is the seventh iteration of Archipelago Endeavour. The exercise runs during weeks 35–37, involving approximately 500 Swedish and U.S. soldiers and officers.

The majority of the training takes place within the Swedish Armed Forces’ designated exercise and live-fire areas in the Stockholm Archipelago and will not significantly affect the public, though increased military activity at sea and on land can be expected during this period.
