    Port of Gothenburg Q1 report: More laden containers and record rail volumes

    The container volumes at the Port of Gothenburg continue to grow—in terms of handled goods. However, the handling of empty containers has decreased, which is a positive development for the efficiency of cargo flows. Container flows by rail also continue to rise and have now reached an all-time high. These are some of the key insights from the port's reported cargo volume statistics for Q1.

    Swedish-produced biomethane bunkered at the Port of Gothenburg

    St1 and St1 Biokraft delivered Swedish-produced liquefied biomethane to Terntank's Tern Ocean at Gothenburg Port, marking a significant step toward large-scale supply for shipping.     Breakbulk cargo finds a place on container ships

    Even though container ships are primarily designed to transport standard containers, they can also accommodate breakbulk cargo, items that exceed the limitations of container dimensions. This capability is especially evident on the largest container ships offering direct weekly services between the Port of Gothenburg and ports in Asia.

    Cruise season kicks off at the Port of Gothenburg

    With the arrival of the cruise ship AIDAmar in the morning, the start of the 2025 cruise season in Gothenburg is now official. In the coming months, nearly 100,000 tourists are expected to arrive by sea to explore the city and its attractions. A total of 64 cruise ships will visit Gothenburg Port this year.

    MSC launches new container line between the Port of Gothenburg and Asia

    A new container service with direct traffic between the Port of Gothenburg and Asia is now launched by MSC, the world's largest container shipping company. Every week, MSC vessels with a capacity of over 15,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) will transport goods between the Port of Gothenburg and ports in China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.
