Due to the sharp downturn in import and export volumes, the Port of Gothenburg has issued redundancy notices to 155 employees. The redundancies will include dock workers, managers and white-collar staff.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics has chosen the Port of Gothenburg as the transit port for cars and other vehicles destined for the Russian market. A new route has commenced between Gothenburg and the ports in St Petersburg and Kotka.

Whilst the first half of 2008 showed an increase for a number of goods categories, volumes fell during the second half of the year. This week marked the premiere for trailer trains to the Port of Gothenburg, resulting in major environmental benefits. The first trains to leave ran between the Port of Gothenburg and thress other locations in Sweden - Vännäs, Helsingborg and Eskilstuna.
