  • Port of Gothenburg appoints new Harbour Master

    The Port of Gothenburg has appointed a new Harbour Master – Åsa Kärnebro. Åsa has been deputy Harbour Master at the Port of Gothenburg since 2010. In her new position she has identified a number of ways to further strengthen the port's competitiveness, not only in Europe but also globally.

  • Sweden: Port of Gothenburg expands

    The Port of Gothenburg, the largest port in Scandinavia, is set to expand with the construction of a new terminal at the outer port area. It is the largest expansion project at the port since the 1970s. The terminal will be built using dredging spoils and is expected to be completed at some point after 2020.

    The giants of the ocean are continuing to grow. Mediterranean Shipping Company is currently launching ships capable of carrying more than 19,000 containers. In December they will begin calling at the Port of Gothenburg. The first to arrive will be the newly christened MSC Maya.

    The Gothenburg Port Authority has decided to leave the Port Tariff unchanged. As a result, the Port Tariff for 2016 will remain at the 2015 level. Magnus Kårestedt, Port of Gothenburg chief executive, said: "Our aim behind this move is to reinforce the growth of industry, shipping and the port."

    Container freight volumes increased by two per cent during the second quarter compared to the corresponding period in 2014. Exports and imports of new cars have also increased. This was revealed in the six-monthly report published today by the Port of Gothenburg.

    A new direct service between Sweden and Asia is due to commence tomorrow, operated by the G6 Alliance. Ships will call at APM Terminals, the container terminal at the Port of Gothenburg, once a week.

    A growing number of ships worldwide run on liquefied natural gas, LNG. Now they can bunker this cleaner fuel alternative at the Port of Gothenburg. New regulations for LNG bunkering have been introduced by the Gothenburg Port Authority in collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam.

  • New Logistics Park creates 2,000 new jobs

    ​A new logistics park is emerging directly beside the Port of Gothenburg. One million square metres in size, the park is expected to generate more than 2,000 jobs.
