​Halmstad goes international through sports

Halmstad is one of Sweden’s most popular summer destinations. In recent years, Halmstad has gained international attention as host of large sports events – particularly the LIEBHERR World Team Table Tennis Championship 2018.

Halmstad is the gem of the Swedish west coast, famous for long sandy beaches and a relaxing atmosphere and an active lifestyle. Halmstad attracts several hundred thousand of tourist every year, mainly Swedish. Halmstad has a proud history in sports and has during the last decade focused on hosting large sports event, both national and international.

From 29th of April until 6th of May Halmstad hosted LIEBHERR World Team Table Tennis Championship 2018 in Halmstad Arena, which was broadcasted in more than 100 countries for more than 300 million viewers. 142 teams participated from more than 100 countries. The championships has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the International Table Tennis Federation, TV broadcasters and the participants themselves. The international attention has brought new possibilities for Halmstad to become an international tourist destination.

Halmstad actually hosts two world championships in 2018. From 5th to 10th of November the World Open Powerlifting Championships is held in Halmstad, with hundreds of international participants. With top class facilities in the indoor sports complex Halmstad Arena, the city now searches for new international events to host in the future.
