Helsingborg is hosting Sweden’s first NATO meeting on 21–22 May
The NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will take place in Helsingborg on 21 and 22 May 2026. The City of Helsingborg will provide regular updates throughout the spring on how the meeting will affect the city.
The NATO meeting will be held at the Clarion Hotel and Congress Sea U in Helsingborg, southern Sweden. The event will begin with an informal dinner at Sofiero Castle on 21 May.
"It is a great honour that NATO has chosen to host its first Swedish meeting in Helsingborg. It highlights our beautiful yet strategic location and reinforces our position as a city committed to security and preparedness. This is also a unique opportunity for Helsingborg to show itself at its very best. Now we must deliver world-class hospitality," says Christian Orsing, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board (M).
Helsingborg occupies a strategically important location on the Öresund, which links the Nordic region and Europe. The city also has extensive experience in organising major international meetings, including the Urban Future Sustainability Conference and in collaboration with the UN the H22 +50 Sessions during H22 City Expo.
Ahead of the NATO meeting, the city is focusing on minimising disruption to the public whilst prioritising security. Plans are underway to create a safe environment for delegates, visitors and the city’s residents.
The City of Helsingborg will provide regular updates throughout the spring on how the city’s residents and businesses may be affected by the NATO meeting. This includes traffic conditions and accessibility in the city's central areas, which may be affected in the days leading up to, during, and after the meeting.
Several stakeholders are working together to ensure a safe and smooth event. The meeting is organised by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (UD) and will be hosted by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The police are responsible for security. The City of Helsingborg is acting as the host city.
