Oslo, Norway (May 20, 2025) - Hurtigruten, the iconic leader in Norwegian coastal voyages, is pleased to announce the appointment of Iain Powell as the company’s new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Iain joined Hurtigruten in March 2024 as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for the UK and EMEA, before being promoted to Managing Director for the Nordics, UK, and Emerging Markets in December 2024.
Iain is a respected commercial leader in the travel industry, with a career spanning renowned brands including TUI, Carnival UK, and Saga Travel Group, where he held the role of Trading Director. Over the past year, Iain has proven himself to be a strong and clear leader within Hurtigruten, demonstrating the ability to deliver results across multiple markets. As CCO, he will now lead Hurtigruten’s global commercial strategy, strengthen the company’s market position, and drive further growth.
“We are very pleased that Iain is stepping into the role of CCO. In a short time, he has demonstrated leadership, business acumen, and the ability to execute. These qualities will be critical for the company’s continued progress,” said Hedda Felin, CEO of Hurtigruten.
Hurtigruten is currently experiencing strong growth, backed by long-term and ambitious owners with high aspirations for the company’s continued development. The role of CCO will therefore be key to realising Hurtigruten's growth strategy and creating even greater value for guests and partners around the world.
“I’m delighted to take on this role and very much appreciate the support that the business has given me. There’s strong demand from people wanting to experience Norway, and we are fortunate to have a truly unique product - world-class journeys through spectacular nature. We are very well placed to capitalise on this demand, and we see a significant opportunity for growth. I look forward to working with Hedda, the board, and the Executive Leadership Team to make the most of these opportunities,” said Iain Powell.

Since 1893, Hurtigruten has connected Norway’s coastal communities. They transport locals, cargo, and international guests to 34 ports along the legendary 12-day round trip between Bergen and Kirkenes - sailing what is often called ‘the world's most beautiful voyage’.
Today, their custom-built fleet offers authentic, immersive experiences, showcasing the natural beauty and cultural richness of this stunning coastline and the communities that call it home.
Committed to setting a higher standard for more sustainable travel initiatives, their fleet includes four battery-hybrid powered ships, while they prioritise energy efficiency, responsible waste management and locally sourced ingredients. Through their ambitious Sea Zero project, Hurtigruten aims to develop their first ship that can sail emissions-free in normal operations on the Norwegian coast by 2030.
Hurtigruten operates year-round, offering two different experiences: the Original Coastal Express voyages and the premium, all-inclusive Signature voyages, dedicated to Svalbard (summer) and the North Cape (winter).
