Hurtigruten Reports Strong Financial Growth and Sustainability Progress in 2025 Results

Oslo, Norway (30 April 2026) - Hurtigruten, the leader in iconic Norwegian coastal voyages, today reported its 2025 annual results highlighting strong financial momentum, with significantly improved profitability, solid revenue growth, and a strengthened financial position.

Following its separation from HX (formerly, Hurtigruten Expeditions), Hurtigruten now operates as an independent Norwegian travel and transport company. The company offers services along the Norwegian coast, in Svalbard and the wider Nordic region. It primarily sails the coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes and offers tailor-made Signature voyages to Svalbard and the North Cape, featuring fewer stops, longer stays in selected ports, and all-inclusive offerings. In Svalbard, Hurtigruten is also represented by Hurtigruten Svalbard, based in Longyearbyen, which offers accommodation and land-based experiences.

The global 2025 figures show strong growth in financial results, with EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation) of €90.2 million, compared to €49.8 million in 2024 – an increase of over 80 per cent year-on-year. During the year, a significant portion of the company’s debt was converted into equity, additional capital was injected by owners, and maturities on new debt were extended to 2030.

More guests and increased revenues

The positive development is driven by higher demand and a stronger commercial product, particularly within the Signature segment. Operating revenues increased by 12 per cent to €501.8 million. A total of 222,000 guests travelled with Hurtigruten in 2025, a six per cent increase compared to the previous year.

“The 2025 figures show that the changes we have implemented are delivering results. The underlying operations have improved significantly, we have strong revenue growth, and a stronger financial position. This gives us the stability we need to prioritise reliable operations, quality, and profitable growth going forward. We are ready for a busy summer season with very strong demand. We see that more and more people want to experience Norwegian nature and cuisine, and we are pleased that many choose Hurtigruten as their first option,” said CEO Hedda Felin.

Collaboration along the coast

Hurtigruten emphasises that the improvements in 2025 are the result of targeted efforts across the entire organisation, and close cooperation with partners along the coast.

“We are very pleased with the teamwork in Hurtigruten. Our skilled and dedicated employees at sea and on land do their utmost to ensure travellers choose us and that guests have a unique experience. I would also like to thank our approximately 600 partners along the coast, with whom we work closely every day,” said Felin.

Sustainability initiatives deliver measurable results

In recent years, Hurtigruten has implemented a comprehensive green upgrade programme for its fleet, with investments exceeding €150 million. This programme was completed in 2025. The company now operates ten ships, four of which have been converted to hybrid operation. This has contributed to significant emission reductions: CO₂ emissions have been reduced by 29 per cent and NOx emissions by 71 per cent since 2018.

Improved operational efficiency has also led to lower emissions per guest. In 2025, Scope 1 CO₂ emissions per available passenger cruise night (APCN) were 108 kg, a reduction of 18 per cent compared to 2018.

The company is also working systematically to reduce waste and food waste on board. In 2025, consumption waste was 0.84 kg per APCN, while food waste was reduced to 66 grams per guest, down from 70 grams the previous year. At the same time, Hurtigruten collaborates with more than 600 local suppliers along the coast, and approximately 80 per cent of food purchases and 62 per cent of beverage purchases come from Norwegian suppliers.

In November, Hurtigruten completed its first climate-neutral voyage using sustainable biodiesel, demonstrating what is possible with current technology and fleet capabilities. Progress has also been made in developing the ships of the future through the Sea Zero project, with testing in collaboration with SINTEF Ocean in Trondheim yielding promising results.
