JYSK as a company achieves certification within recycled materials

For several years, JYSK has sold GRS certified products with recycled materials, and with a GRS certification as a company, the international home furnishing retailer now increases the focus on this work.

JYSK has taken a significant step forward in its work to increase the amount of recycled materials in the products.

JYSK as a company has achieved the Global Recycled Standard certification (GRS), which means that JYSK meets GRS's requirements for, among other things, documentation of recycled materials.

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is an international, voluntary standard that verifies recycled materials and tracks it from the recycler to the final product. To ensure traceability, all links in the supply chain must be certified, including JYSK as a company.

"The GRS certification of JYSK as a company is an important step on the way to offering our customers more products made entirely or partly from recycled materials. For a number of years, we have had recycled materials in everything from cushions to glass vases, and with the certification we ensure an even higher degree of traceability and documentation for the materials," says Peter Andsager, Executive Vice President for Purchasing at JYSK.

500 GRS certified products

JYSK already has more than 500 GRS certified products in its assortment, and the next step will be to define a concrete target.

“We believe in the GRS as a thorough and valid certification with regard to recycled materials. When we market a product as containing recycled content, we must know that the recycled materials are in fact recycled. It is a very complex procedure to control that throughout your supply chain, but the GRS system helps us do that, and we can benefit from their work and control system,” says Lars Ringtved Nielsen, Compliance and Quality Director.

An important reason why JYSK has chosen GRS is that the certification covers more and more materials such as polyester and cotton. This makes it very relevant to JYSK as a company with a wide range of different products.

More products of recycled material

Increasing the amount of recycled content in the products is an important part of JYSK’s work with sustainability, and the number of products that are fully or partly made from recycled materials is generally increasing.

“In addition to the GRS-certified products that carries the GRS logo, we also have many other products that contain some percentage of recycled material. For us, a little recycled material is better than no recycled material, even if those products don't carry the GRS logo. We can still use our GRS certification as a company to also ensure the traceability of that material," says Peter Andsager.

What is GRS?

  • The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is an international, voluntary standard that verifies recycled materials and tracks it from the recycler to the final product.
  • The GRS also sets strict social and environmental requirements. In addition, chemicals with potential to be harmful are not permitted to be used in GRS-certified products.
