JYSK celebrates opening of new distribution centre in Hungary

JYSK's new, state-of-the-art distribution centre in Ecser, Hungary, has officially been inaugurated with a ceremony attended by government officials from Hungary and top executives from JYSK.

JYSK’s 9th distribution centre in Europe was officially inaugurated on Friday 4 November.

Around 400 guests attended the event to celebrate the official opening of the distribution centre nicknamed DCE, short for “Distribution Centre Ecser”. Among the guests were Jan Bøgh, President & CEO of JYSK, who gave a speech to the audience.

“With our new distribution centre here in Ecser, we will be able to deliver products much faster and more efficiently – directly to our customers and to our stores. This is in line with our strategy to be “Seamless & Closer to the Customer”. We want to make shopping as easy as possible for our customers. And we want to be closer to our customers,” he said.

The facility includes receiving and delivery ramps as well as an office building for JYSK Hungary’s local head office. The distribution centre itself is 800 metres wide, has gates to dock 189 trucks and the material handling system alone is 2.5 kilometres long.

A 200-million EUR investment

The distribution centre, which is the largest of its kind in the country, represents an investment of 200 million EUR and was realised with the support of HIPA and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Levente Magyar, who also attended the event along with Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President Logistics in JYSK.

The two fully-automated high bays of the distribution centre currently house 18,000 pallets of products and have a capacity of more than 200,000 pallets. Every week, 150 trucks arrive and depart with goods, and this number will double in a few months’ time.

“Our new distribution centre is an important step to improve our already efficient logistics setup. In addition to Hungary, this distribution centre will also deliver products to JYSK stores in Croatia, Slovenia, and Slovakia. Due to the central location, we also expect to save 4.5 million kilometres of road transport every year. In addition, solar panels have been installed on 6,000 square metres of the roof, so a large part of the energy used in the distribution is produced locally. All of this is good for both the environment and our ability to provide great offers to our customers,” Ole Thomsen said during his speech at the event.
