JYSK continues activities in Ukraine after year of war

With the safety of employees and customers as the priority, JYSK continues running, upgrading existing and opening new stores.

Before the war broke out on 24 February 2022, JYSK Ukraine had 85 running stores in Ukraine, plus three new stores under construction and one store under rearrangement.

One year later, JYSK Ukraine has reopened the majority of stores and plans to open three new stores by September. As of 31 January 2023, there were 83 open stores in Ukraine.

“We hope that it never becomes normal that our employees have to take shelter in basements when the air raid alarm sounds. But that is unfortunately the reality in Ukraine one year after Russia’s invasion. Our employees’ safety is still our priority,” says Mikael Nielsen, Executive Vice President Retail at JYSK.

Goal of 100 stores

After temporarily closing all stores in Ukraine during the first week of the invasion, most stores have been reopened one by one.

“Our decision to reopen stores came from a strong wish from the local country management team and the employees. They wanted to deliver necessary products to the Ukranian people and hold on to some kind of everyday life during the war. On most parametres, JYSK Ukraine is right now running like any other JYSK country thanks to the local management team’s great dedication and our strong concepts,” says Mikael Nielsen.

The long-term goal in Ukraine is to reach 100 stores, and JYSK believes in a successful future in the country.

“We keep going, we continue signing new leases, opening new stores, and rearranging existing stores. We continue serving customers, providing them with critical products, and we support the state. JYSK Ukraine has also supported many charity projects, including migrants, hospitals, and museums. JYSK Ukraine has also involved loyal customers by promoting and collecting funds to finance socially responsible projects,” says Ievgenii Ivanytsia, Country Director for JYSK Ukraine.
