JYSK invests in new distribution centre in Spain

To further support JYSK’s ambitious expansion plans for more stores in Spain and Portugal, the global retail company will strengthen its logistics setup with a new distribution centre in Almenara, south of Castellón.

In September, JYSK reached a milestone with 150 stores across Spain and Portugal. The objective for the current financial year is to open more than 30 new stores and upgrade nearly 20 existing stores to the newest concept.

In order to support this growth ambition, JYSK has purchased a 274,000-square-metre plot in Almenara, south of Castellón, from the Spanish family-run Bertolin Group. Here, the global retail company will build a brand new, state-of-the-art distribution centre to deliver products to stores and directly to customers in Spain and Portugal.

“Our new distribution centre in Almenara will be the next step in further strengthening our logistics setup. In November last year, we inaugurated the newest distribution centre in Hungary, and we are currently planning a new one in the Netherlands. Thanks to our continued growth, we need to invest in more logistics capacity, so we can continue to deliver our great Scandinavian offers to our customers,” says Ole Thomsen, EVP Logistics at JYSK.

New workplace for 250 employees

The new distribution centre will be similar to the one that is currently under planning in the Netherlands, which will include two high bays and several docks for loading and unloading trucks. The high bays will provide approximately 150,000 pallet locations for products. The roof will also be equipped with solar panels to provide energy for the facility.

In addition, the buildings will include office space for the head office of JYSK Spain and Portugal. In total, JYSK expects that the distribution centre and head office will become the new workplace for approximately 250 employees. Across both Spain and Portugal, JYSK currently employs 1,400 people with 128 stores in Spain and 25 stores in Portugal.

The new distribution centre is expected to be finished in 2027/28. Until then, the current distribution centre and head office in Cheste, west of Valencia, will continue as is.
