JYSK puts sustainability on the agenda at its first supplier event in Asia
Strategy, shared direction and—most importantly—ambitions for sustainability and compliance are in focus as JYSK brings together 475 participants from suppliers and international traders for a joint event in Shanghai.
For the first time, JYSK is hosting a major supplier event in Asia when the company opens its doors to the JYSK Supplier Event on Tuesday 2 June.
The event marks an important step in the home furnishing retailer’s ambition to strengthen collaboration and embed compliance and sustainability efforts among its suppliers.
“Our responsibility extends beyond our own business and therefore also includes our suppliers. We are working purposefully to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain, and we can only succeed if we do it together. That is why it is important for us to meet in person, share knowledge and motivate our suppliers and sub‑suppliers, so that together we can maintain high standards and contribute to our shared goals,” says Søren Lip ter Beek, Compliance Manager at JYSK and responsible for the supplier event.
During the event, JYSK will present potential factory‑specific reduction initiatives, expectations for data sharing, as well as the company’s SBTi‑validated climate targets aimed at reducing CO₂e emissions across the value chain.
CO₂ reductions among suppliers are crucial
As the majority of JYSK’s CO₂e emissions stem from the production of goods, supplier engagement is essential to achieving the company’s SBTi climate targets in scope 3.
Overall, JYSK has committed to ensuring that at least 72.5% of suppliers, measured by emissions, calculate their individual emissions and have SBTi‑approved targets by the end of 2028.
“We want to ensure an even stronger shared understanding of our strategic direction within social responsibility, environmental impact and compliance. This is the first time we are hosting an event of this kind in Asia, which underlines how important the collaboration with our Chinese suppliers and sub‑suppliers is,” says Søren Lip ter Beek.
Participants will also gain insight into JYSK’s work with social and environmental audits through amfori, where minimum expectations are continuously tightened to improve conditions for workers and reduce factories’ environmental impact.
JYSK is continuously working on the initiatives presented to suppliers, with the aim of reducing emissions from products at factory level.
JYSK’s SBTi‑approved climate targets are:
- JYSK commits to reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 CO₂e emissions by 50.4% by 2032 compared to the 2022 baseline year. *
- JYSK commits to ensuring that 72.5% of suppliers, based on emissions covering purchased goods, products and services, will have SBTi‑approved targets by the end of the 2028 financial year.
- JYSK’s total emissions across scope 1, 2 and 3:
- 1.85% Scope 1 and 2
- 98.15% Scope 3
* The target boundary includes emissions from land use and removals from bio‑based raw materials used for energy production.
