In 1980, the Applause Award was created as the first global and industry specific award honouring amusement- and theme parks. At a ceremony on May 14, 2026, in Xcaret, Mexico, Warner Bros World™ Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, received the 23rd Applause Award, joining a very exclusive group of recognized parks.
On 14 May, Liseberg officially opened its new family attraction, Stormvåg (the Storm Wave), with an inauguration inspired by classic maritime tradition. The celebration was followed by a lively premiere ride for 24 eagerly anticipating guests.

After turbulent years marked by the pandemic, a challenging macroeconomic environment, and the tragic Oceana-fire, Liseberg now sees light at the end of the tunnel. The group concludes 2025 with 100,000 more guests and an 8 percent increase in revenue.
In the summer of 2026, new adventures will set sail in Liseberg’s very own archipelago as Stormvåg (Storm Wave) – a brand new family attraction – makes its debut. The ride is a Wild Swing XL model, one of the first of its kind. Stormvåg will be located along the Liseberg riverbank and, with its charming boatyard inspired theme, will become a natural part of Liseberg’s beloved West Coast area.
Liseberg has filed a lawsuit against the insurance company Trygg-Hansa, which has refused to pay insurance compensation following the fire at Oceana on February 12, 2024. Trygg-Hansa claims that Liseberg lacks an insurable interest in Oceana. Liseberg's claim amounts to just over one billion Swedish kronor (€92 million).
On July 4, it was finally the world premiere of this summer's major new ride at Liseberg – Kraftverket – a whirlwind high speed carousel that, with its 3.5 G forces, tests the passengers from the first moment. 40 brave riders had been selected to test the Kraftverket before everyone else. ‘Powerful’, ‘awesome’, and ‘near-life experience’ were some of the reviews after the first ride.
