Stormvåg Makes Its Debut – Liseberg Opens a Brand-New Family Ride
On 14 May, Liseberg officially opened its new family attraction, Stormvåg (the Storm Wave), with an inauguration inspired by classic maritime tradition. The celebration was followed by a lively premiere ride for 24 eagerly anticipating guests.
As one of the biggest new attractions of the summer, Stormvåg serves as a natural bridge between the children’s area, Kaninlandet, and Liseberg’s more intense thrill rides. Designed as a family attraction that appeals to both younger and older guests, Stormvåg offers a thrilling experience, allowing the whole family to ride together.
With its theming inspired by the city harbour and Sweden’s west coast, it was only fitting that representatives from the Port of Gothenburg took part in the inauguration on opening day. In accordance with long-standing maritime tradition—where vessels are christened to bring good fortune at sea—Liseberg’s newest attraction was inaugurated with a ceremonial breaking of a bottle. In true Liseberg spirit, the bottle was made entirely of sugar, allowing the celebration to take place without broken glass.
The honour of inaugurating Stormvåg was carried out by Kristina Karlsson, Port Officer at the Port of Gothenburg, before Harbour Master Pontus Bengtsson officially launched the premiere ride.
Interest in being among the very first riders was record-breaking. More than 1,200 people entered a competition for a chance to take part in the premiere ride. Among the winners were Molly and Wilma Enander, who were quick to share their enthusiasm:
“I give it 10 out of 10 – I want to ride it millions of times,” says Wilma, 10.
“It was so much fun. Now we’re going to ride lots more attractions, and even the Lisebergbanan – the rain doesn’t matter at all,” adds Molly, 15.
Another of the first riders was Albin Käck Jones, 11, who brought along his siblings Astrid, 9, and Axel, 8, for the occasion:
“I’d give it a strong 8 out of 10. It was really fun, but still pretty scary. I’d love to ride it again when it’s not raining so much,” says Albin.
Stormvåg is a Wild Swing XL, one of the first of its kind. Those who feel a sense of nostalgia may recognize elements reminiscent of a classic Topspin, but here the experience is designed for the entire family to enjoy together. The premiere ride became a true multi-generational moment, with riders ranging from 8 to 74 years old.
“We are so happy that Stormvåg has finally arrived at Liseberg. We started back in September, and hearing the joyful screams from guests today is incredibly rewarding. In many ways, it feels like Stormvåg has always belonged here and is a perfect complement to the rest of the park,” says Emelie Spelmans, Project Lead at Liseberg.
