Volvo Car Mobility grows M dev team

Volvo Car Mobility launched its smart car-sharing service M in Stockholm and Uppsala in early fall 2019. Now the company is ramping up its development efforts and recruiting 25 new developers to the tech team.

Volvo Car Mobility’s recently launched smart car-sharing service M is designed for today’s fast-moving, digital, city lifestyles. Its goal is to give people and businesses a great alternative to car ownership. Since M launched this past September in Stockholm and Uppsala, Volvo Car Mobility has continued to improve and evolve, thanks in part to customer feedback.

“The post-launch period has been intense and we’ve learned a great deal about how our customers are using the service – and about the things they’d like to improve. It’s clear that the time has come for a service that gives people a workable alternative to privately owned cars, many of which stand idle most of the time. The platform’s capacity to use data enables us to identify improvement opportunities that will help us meet demand and grow geographically. So, in addition to our ongoing recruitment activities, we’re now ramping up efforts and looking to hire an additional 25 developers,” says Bodil Eriksson, CEO of Volvo Car Mobility.

The link between hardware and software – along with the company’s data-driven approach – offers a unique set of challenges and possibilities for developers. M is built solely on new technology and is therefore completely unburdened by legacy systems. The teams almost entirely design the development methodology themselves, and employees thrive in an open and learning workplace environment. Diversity has been a priority since the very beginning and serves as a guiding principle when it comes to recruitment.

In Stockholm alone, 20,000 people have registered for M over the past three months. It boasts an App Store rating of 4.9 and it has an overall user rating of over 4.7 out of a possible 5 (based on 10,000 completed journeys).

Following the B2C launch, the company has also intensified its B2B efforts. M has joined hands with a number of business customers to develop a brand-new product that is slated for a wider market release in early spring 2020.

“We have a solid product that we’ll continue to develop in concert with our customers. We see incredible opportunities to adapt the service to user patterns as well as to develop new service solutions. We’re looking for developers that want to pioneer tomorrow’s mobility services – for the sake of our environment and our cities. We want talented individuals that want to help liberate people from car ownership,” concludes Bodil Eriksson.
