Motosumo helps the longevity of the cyclists. Members come back and love indoor cycling now!

“It’s super easy with Motosumo. From teenagers to elderly people, everyone loves it!"
- Karin Hesse, Viva Gym, South Africa.

Our growing international community allows gyms worldwide to create an enhanced workout experience with Motosumo.

Recently, we sat down with Karin Hesse of Viva Gym, a gym chain spread across South Africa. Karin is a fitness specialist and instructor at Viva Gym. She spoke to us about how VIVA Gym uses Motosumo to redefine its indoor cycling experience with live and virtual classes (and sometimes even on-demand classes) across their seven gym locations. As a long-time user of Motosumo, Viva Gym has transformed its workout experience for all its members, whether teenagers or retirees.

“The bike setup is very easy, but it’s mostly about the human effort our members put in. As instructors, it’s easier for us to guide new members into working out and teach them to continue their fitness journey and develop good habits with Motosumo!” Karin says.

A New Spin on Cycling Classes

Karin is a huge fan of what she calls ‘the Motosumo experience.’ "I don't ever want to go back to a normal [indoor] cycling class" she exclaims. “Very few gyms use apps, but our members love Motosumo.”

Motosumo has shifted the focus from the instructor to an immersive, data-driven experience. "It pushes members, helps novices gauge resistance, and provides real-time feedback on their performance zone," she notes, “This is super useful for all members, from the novice to the pro.”

The Motosumo Effect: A Community United by Stats

Viva Gym has witnessed a substantial uptick in class attendance, both in-person and remotely, since the Motosumo integration. Karin noticed the Motosumo app has a magnetic pull, creating a longing among non-users eager to join the Motosumo community. It's a tool that surpasses workout tracking and guides members to foster a vibrant social network to motivate each other and transform workouts into communal, high-energy events.

"Those who don’t have the app are sometimes jealous of the ones who have [it] because it makes workouts more fun and interactive," Karin remarks, highlighting the app's role in building connections beyond the gym floor.

“Motosumo hooks people. Members love it. They play games. The nice thing is that they push each other and motivate each other. Most of our members now know each other on a name-by-name basis.”

According to Kresten Juel Jensen, the CEO and Co-Founder of Motosumo: “The community and social feeling fostered at VIVA Gym using Motosumo is exactly what we’re all about. It’s not just about working out, but about improving yourself and succeeding together.”

Riding on Data

Motosumo has led to a noticeable change in member motivation and workout intensity. "There's more structure now," Karin points out. “Motosumo helps the longevity of the cyclists. By longevity, I mean stickiness. Members come back and love [indoor] cycling now!”

The ability for instructors to build tailored programs based on specific stats has not only intensified workouts but added to the community feel that feels ‘automatic’ in a Motosumo class - in and outside classes.

The live classes, amplified by Motosumo's interactive features, have doubled the retention rates compared to on-demand sessions, underscoring the value of real-time engagement.

“There are specific stats we can tailor-make a class,” Karin said. “Everything’s on the leaderboard, and our members love it.” Motosumo’s team display turns individual efforts into a collective experience that everyone wants to join and be a part of.

Motosumo stands out at Viva Gym. "Members love it," Karin smiles. “It's the inclusivity and interactivity that Motosumo brings to the table.” The app appeals to specialists and novices, creating a harmonious environment where everyone can engage, interact, and excel.

“Our instructors work very hard and closely with members to ensure a great workout experience. We’re ecstatic that Motosumo is being used to bolster intensity, engagement, and community,” Kresten ends.
