Motosumo users plant 2,106 trees for #TeamTrees

338 gyms participated in #TrainForTrees, a week-long drive to raise money for #TeamTrees and the Arbor Day Foundation.

The concept was simple. For every 2,000kcals burned using the Motosumo app, we vowed to plant a tree. We were blown away by the response. Over 4,000 users from all over the world joined forces to turn their group fitness workouts into real-life, oxygen-pumping trees.

We counted every indoor cycling session, sprint, squat, and burpee. And our users burned a whopping 3,212,098 calories!

The total number of trees was boosted by a contribution from our friends at the Fitness Industry Technology Council, who donated an extra 500 trees, bringing the grand total to 2,106.

Allan Steen Olesen, one of our co-founders, is stoked with the result. “It's been amazing to see so much excitement behind the initiative. For the first time ever, we had users all over the world working together towards a common goal. That’s huge. And we’ve gotten great feedback from our gyms. They say #TrainForTrees has been a great motivator and, in some cases, has even helped fill classes.”

At the top of the leaderboard was The Ride in Brighton, Michigan, who planted 95 trees. Instructor coordinator, Taylor Raymond Barrett, saw the enthusiasm first hand."Our Ride Tribe couldn't wait to participate in the #TrainForTrees campaign. They promoted the challenge before and after every class. It was fantastic. We're thrilled that we were able to burn so many calories as a team and contribute significantly to the Arbor Day Foundation. Everyone is super proud of the achievement."

Motosumo is already looking forward to repeating the event. “Now that we’ve seen this competition platform in action, we know that it’s a great way to get people in the gym and excited to work out for a good cause,” says Allan. “So, we’re already thinking of options for our next event. This year was kind of a test run. Next year, we want to take it to the next level.”
