Last year, Norfund’s investments in developing countries aimed at creating jobs and avoiding emissions delivered returns of 7.2 per cent and 11.4 per cent respectively, measured in investment currency. “Good returns are important in order to combat poverty and limit climate change more effectively,” says Tellef Thorleifsson, CEO of Norfund.
Norfund is investing USD 4 million to support CPC’s scaling of industrial PET recycling in Vietnam. The investment aims to create jobs, contribute to lower emissions, reduce plastic pollution, and supply high‑quality recycled materials to international and domestic markets.
Norfund and OP Finnfund have invested USD 15 million in Softlogic Life Insurance to expand access to life and health insurance in Sri Lanka. Softlogic Life serves 1.3 million customers nationwide, with insurance coverage for low-income households rising from 300,000 to 490,000 since 2020.
Tellef Thorleifsson has informed the Norfund Board that he will step down from his position as CEO in July. During the 7.5 years Thorleifsson has led Norfund, the fund has doubled its invested capital, tripled annual investments, and been entrusted to manage two new mandates.
