Kvitnes Gård Honoured with Multiple Awards, Elevating Vesterålen’s Culinary Scene

Kvitnes Gård, a renowned farm-to-table restaurant in Vesterålen, has been recognised with several prestigious awards in 2024, confirming its place as one of Nordic's top food destinations. These include Matprisen's “Kitchen of the Year”, Norges Vel Founder Award for “Circular Food Entrepreneur”, as well as a spot among the top three most sustainable restaurants in Norway by the international 360 Eat Guide.

Dedicated to sustainability and exceptional cuisine, Kvitnes Gård prides itself in offering world-class dishes that showcase the connection between local harvesting and the surrounding community.
– Our commitment to sustainable food production, animal welfare, and continuously improving our guests' experience is what drives us forward, says Halvar Ellingsen, Head Chef and Founder of Kvitnes Gård.

A Milestone Achievement
This marks the second time Kvitnes Gård has been honoured by Matprisen, having previously won in a different category four years prior. However, being named “Kitchen of the Year” carries special meaning as it is one of Norway's most prestigious recognitions in the food industry, celebrating those who are leading sustainable change in Norwegian gastronomy.
– It’s an honour to be nominated alongside colleagues, and close friends like Holmen Lofoten. This recognition highlights the exceptional quality and passion in our region and across Norway, he says.

Further reinforcing its dedication to sustainability, Kvitnes Gård was named “Circular Food Entrepreneur of the Year” by Norges Vel Founder Award. Through practices like composting, self-sufficient farming, and thoughtful sourcing, Kvitnes Gård exemplifies the future of sustainable food production.
– This award highlights the daily work that often goes unseen and is a testament to the entire team, who consistently push the boundaries of sustainable practice, Ellingsen states.

Tourism Impact
Kvitnes Gård’s impact extends beyond its own kitchen. As Vesterålen’s flagship culinary destination, Kvitnes Gård not only offers a unique farm-to-table experience but also enhances the region’s tourism by demonstrating how sustainable food practices can elevate both local industries and guest experiences.
– Kvitnes Gård has firmly placed Vesterålen on the culinary map. It’s not just about one kitchen but about strengthening the region’s competence and raising the overall standard. Ellingsen and his team’s knowledge-sharing approach benefits the whole community, says Vebjørn A. L. Andresen, Director of Tourism at Visit Vesterålen.

With direct flights now available year-round from Frankfurt to Evenes, coupled with a convenient shuttle service to the farm, Kvitnes Gård is more accessible than ever, inviting international visitors to experience the region's culinary gem.

Looking Ahead
As Kvitnes Gård prepares for the upcoming year, Ellingsen and his team are focused on refining their operations, perfecting their culinary offerings, and continuing to set new standards for sustainable cuisine.
– Our goal is to further develop the farm, enhance the meals, and elevate the overall experience for our guests, says Ellingsen.

With a dedicated team of 15 to 16 staff members during the off-season, their commitment to quality and guest experience remains unwavering.
– The day we no longer find joy in this work is the day we’ll close, he adds, emphasising the passion driving their success.
