New ship lines for passenger harbours in Helsinki
Eckerö Line’s new ship M/S Finlandia entered service starting at the West Harbour on 31 December 2012, operating on the Helsinki-Tallin route. Finlandia is faster than M/S Nordlandia, which operated on the line previously: now passengers can cross the Gulf of Finland in two and a half hours, some half an hour faster than before.
The Tallink group’s Silja Europa and Baltic Princess changed their routes at the start of 2013. M/S Silja Europa started operating on the Helsinki-Tallinn route on 23 January, while M/S Baltic Princess switched to the Turku-Stockholm route. These changes will improve both the ships’ total fuel consumption and make the routes more-cost-effective.
