Pressinformation for the Award Week

Today, Shaun Tan, the recipient of the 2011 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, arrives to Sweden to participate in the award week 21-31 of May. The award week program, press releases, photos and illustrations are available at www.alma.se

 

The events and activities throughout the week will be documented and information and new pictures will be published continuously at www.alma.se and in the press room at www.mynewsdesk.se. Publication of these photographs is free on the condition that the name of the photographer, Stefan Tell, is given.

 

Interviews with Shaun Tan and the Chairman of the Jury Mr. Larry Lempert, and clips from the award ceremony in The Stockholm Concert Hall May 31 will be available at www.thenewsmarket.com/Sweden on the evening of the 31st. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is the world's largest prize for children's and young adult literature. The award, which amounts to SEK 5 million, is awarded annually to a single recipient or to several. Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and those active in reading promotion may be rewarded. The award is designed to promote interest in children's and young adult literature, and in children's rights, globally. An expert jury selects the winners from candidates nominated by institutions and organisations worldwide. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is administered by the Swedish Arts Council.

Children have the right to great stories

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child’s right to great stories. This global award is given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. With a prize of five million Swedish kronor, it is the largest award of its kind. Administrated by the Swedish Arts Council.
