Kristian Mondrup 'Fuzzy Borders' at Malmskillnadsgatan 38B

Pressmeddelande -

Kristian Mondrup 'Fuzzy Borders' at Malmskillnadsgatan 38B

The title of the exhibition, Fuzzy Borders, is taken from a political article on border demarcations and how soft country borders (fuzzy borders) function as buffer zones between countries to avoid armed conflicts. Mondrup is inspired by the two contemporary philosophers Yuk Hui and Byung-Chul Han; thinkers who in recent years have both written extensively about the relationship between geopolitics, globalization, information technology and aesthetics. The focal point of the exhibition is precisely a meditation on how modern technology is gradually blurring the line between reality and fiction, and what the consequences are.

I see my paintings in relation to a conceptual painting tradition, but with a surface that looks like it belongs in a figurative tradition. So, back to the title - ’Fuzzy borders’ - in this sense also points to me wanting to find a space to breathe on the boundary between the traditions of narrative painting and conceptual painting. — Kristian Mondrup

Fuzzy Borders will be Kristian Mondrup’s first solo exhibition at CFHILL. Prior to this he has worked as a visual artist, composer and curator, recently in his

acclaimed exhibition with artist Li Ran, Out of reach, at Christian Andersen Gallery, Copenhagen in the spring of 2021. In conjunction with this was also the screening session Li Ran — Another Modern Artistat Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen.

In 2020 Mondrup contributed to, amongst others, A Hypothetical Show For A Closed Museum at M-Woods Museum, Beijing, China and For Jord at Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, LA, USA. Over the years he has also collaborated with his artist wife Liu Shiyuan and Wang Haiyang. Other previous projects include work for Superflex and with the Danish VR artist collective Makropol.

We are very proud to partner up with unique talents like Kristian Mondrup and also very excited to bring attention to his work here in Stockholm, says Michael Elmenbeck, CFHILL.
