Press release -

The digital award ceremony for the winner of the Children’s Climate Prize 2021 will take place on November 19th – everyone is invited!

Celebrate this year's winner with us on November 19th at 10-10:30 am CET; 15-year-old Reshma Kosaraju from USA, along with the other finalists. Due to the (global) uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, this year’s Children’s Climate Prize is a digital event, which also allows for anyone and everyone to be a part of it, no matter where you are located!

There is a lot of focus on the fact that little is being done to secure a sustainable future for generations to come. But there are those who act, put pressure on our leaders and take initiative. Young people who dare to think differently and see opportunities where others see difficulties.

Seventeen-year-old Lesein Mutunkei, from Nairobi, Kenya tackles climate change with the help of soccer. Sixteen-year-old Fernanda Barros, from Brazil, works to attain climate and social justice for the indigenous people of the Amazon. Fifteen-year-old Reshma Kosaraju, from California, uses AI technology to predict forest fires. Seventeen-year-old Anjali Sharma, from Australia, made history when instigating a class action against Sussan Ley, the country’s Minister for the Environment. Finally, we have seventeen-year-old Yash Narayan, from the USA, who uses technology for improved and more precise waste sorting. These young people have all done and are doing extraordinary work for the climate and the environment.

Celebrate the winner and finalists of 2021's Children's Climate Prize on Friday, November 19th at 10-10:30 am CET! Set aside 30 minutes of your time and visit www.ccprize.org to take part of the broadcast!

Since 2016, when the award was founded by Telge Energi, the Children’s Climate Prize has been recognizing contributions by young people towards solving climate and environmental issues. Today, it is one of the world’s largest international climate awards for young innovators, entrepreneurs, conservators and changemakers. This year’s winner is 15-year-old Reshma Kosaraju from the USA, who is being recognized for her project, AI against forest fires, which uses AI technology to predict forest fires. The jury mentions courage, innovativeness and solution-orientation, in their motivation. Eighteen-year-old Luca Berardi from WWF Sweden Youth will be hosting the event. He was a finalist himself for the 2016 Children's Climate Prize.

The Children’s Climate Prize is an international prize annually awarded to young people who have made extraordinary efforts for the climate and environment. The award and financial support are managed by the Children’s Climate Foundation, which was initiated by the award’s founder Telge Energi. Based on Telge Energi’s belief in young people’s ability to drive change in the world, the award is now a part of their ongoing work for sustainable development and production of renewable energy in Sweden. The winners of the prize are celebrated at an award ceremony in November each year and receive a diploma, medal and prize money of SEK 100,000 to continue developing their projects.
