Anna Karinsdotter appointed new director of Drottningholms Slottsteater

Anna Karinsdotter is the new artistic and managing director of Drottningholms Slottsteater. Formerly the artistic director of Unga på Operan at the Royal Swedish Opera, Anna will be taking up office on 1 May for a five-year tenure.

Drottningholms Slottsteater’s business comprises stage performances and guided tours. The theatre itself is over 250 years old and is on Unesco’s World Heritage list.

With her creativity, knowledge and experience, she will create exciting productions and events that will allow us to continue reaching a broad public of all ages.”

For the past fifteen years, Anna has been developing the Royal Swedish Opera’s activities for children and young adults, first as divisional head and since 2012 as artistic director. She has long experience of the music scene and possess broad knowledge of the arts and humanities.

Sofi Lerström, the sitting artistic and managing director was offered an extension but decided to decline. The planning of the 2021 and 2022 seasons will be finalised by Sofi Lerström, whose tenure expires at the end of next April.

“In her ten years with us, Sofi has done wonders enhancing the theatre’s artistic quality by establishing international collaborations with leading artists in baroque opera, theatre and contemporary art,” says Karin Forseke. “Thanks to its innovative projects, the theatre has reached out to a larger, new and, not least, younger audience. During Sofi’s watch, the entire theatre has enjoyed outstanding professional development.”
