Francesco Corti appointed new musical director at Drottningholms Slottsteater

Harpsichordist and conductor Francesco Corti will be assuming the post of musical director on 1 January 2023, from which time he will lead the theatre’s artistic development alongside the theatre’s artistic and managing director Anna Karinsdotter.
Francesco is strong in his artistry and a solid leader,” she says. “He is firmly established on the early music scene and has a rich network. We share visions, and I’m very much looking forward to working with him.”

The term of Francesco Corti’s appointment as musical director at Drottningholms Slottsteater is for three years. He conducted last year’s acclaimed production of Agrippina and is looking forward to working with future repertoires and orchestral development.

“I was struck by the enthusiasm of the orchestra during Agrippina,” he says. “The team at Drottningholms Slottsteater is full of energy and ideas, and most importantly, wishes to open up new creative paths. I’m honored and proud to be joining such team, and I’m looking forward to developing new projects for this magical place.”

Francesco Corti will be appearing at Drottningholms Slottsteater already this summer conducting Salle des Machines – an anniversary evening on 19 August, and before that on 14 - 16 July in a filmed version of Agrippina to be shown on a big screen in Drottningholm Palace Park.

About Francesco Corti:

  • Harpsichordist, organist, plays the fortepiano and conducts.
  • Repertoire spans the early Renaissance to contemporary music, with a primary focus on the Baroque and Classical periods.
  • Regularly conducts orchestras such as Les Musiciens du Louvre and Pomo d’Oro.
  • Has made many CD recordings as conductor, soloist and chamber musician, most recently a multi-prize-winning recording of music by Bach and Handel.
  • Has taught harpsichord and basso continuo at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, one of the world’s foremost academies for early music, since 2016.
