EcoDataCenter scales up – Mårten Mickos key addition to the board

Stockholm, 12 May, 2025 – EcoDataCenter strengthens its board by recruiting internationally experienced business leader Mårten Mickos. Mickos has extensive experience in successful leadership roles within global technology companies, notably as CEO of MySQL, which under his leadership became Europe’s second unicorn, as well as a board member at Nokia.

His experience in driving growth for several prominent companies will significantly contribute to our ambition of becoming the leading provider of high-performaning, sustainable data centers,” says Leif Andersson, Chairman of the Board at EcoDataCenter and founder of Areim.

Over the past two years, EcoDataCenter, in collaboration with its owner Areim, has secured approximately EUR 1.1 billion in financing and several new customer contracts. The company has rapidly established itself as a leader in data center solutions for AI and cloud services. In autumn 2024, EcoDataCenter acquired Kvarnsveden Paper Mill in Borlänge, Sweden, creating further opportunities for growth and expansion.

In recent years, Mårten Mickos served as CEO of HackerOne and was awarded an honorary doctorate in technology from Aalto University in 2022, where he currently serves as an Executive in Residence. Mårten Mickos is based in Seattle and has been active in Silicon Valley for the past 20 years.
