FANUC Robot Expert Elected IFR President

Takayuki Ito (66) has been elected as the new President of the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). The Chief Technical Advisor of FANUC Corporation, who previously held the position of IFR Vice President, is now ready to serve the global robotics industry in his new role. IFR represents 3,000 organizations drawn from national robotics associations, academia or robot manufacturers in over twenty countries.

Takayuki Ito has spent more than 40 years in the robotics industry and is currently Chief Technical Advisor for FANUC’s Robot Research & Development Division. Since 1981, Takayuki Ito has held various positions at the factory automation and robot manufacturer: after starting out as a software engineer, he became Vice General Manager of the company’s robot laboratory and Executive Vice President for FANUC Robotics in North America in 1997.

  • -FANUC Nordic is pleased to have Ito san taking charge as President of IFR. He is a true ambassador of flexible automation. His work and commitment will also be felt in Sweden and other Nordic countries, where automation is becoming a key factor in keeping local companies competitive in the market, says Bob Struijk, Managing Director of FANUC Nordic.

Takayuki Ito returned to FANUC headquarters in Japan in 2002 to take up the position of General Manager for the Robot Technology Center. From 2010, he transferred to the robot sales division, overseeing FANUC’s local and later international sales, before being promoted to General Manager of the Robot Sales Division. In July 2023, Takayuki Ito took up his current position of Chief Technical Advisor in the Robot Research and Development Division.

During Takayuki Ito’s time at FANUC, the company has grown to become a global player in the robotics industry, culminating in the production of the one millionth FANUC robot in 2023. Since installing the first robot in its own factories in 1974, the company has honed its technological expertise and innovative spirit and now offers more than 200 robot models, including the largest selection of collaborative robot models (cobots) on the market.
