Fryshuset initiates cooperation with the UN’s Human Settlements Programme Habitat

Fryshuset has signed a letter of intent on cooperation with UN-Habitat, the UN body for the development of better urban environments. Together, Fryshuset and Habitat will, within the framework of the Safer Cities program, create a global youth platform where young people in different countries will have the opportunity to participate in, and influence the design of, future cities. 

The intention is also that more youth activity houses like Fryshuset should be established in several parts of the world. New methods and tools should be developed to strengthen young people, with a special focus on girls, in order for them to actively influence their future. Joint leadership training programs should be designed to enable young people to contribute to creating safer urban environments.

In a number of selected cities "Safety Labs" will be established in collaboration with local universities or other knowledge-centres, collecting and documenting innovative ideas and experiences from a youth perspective.

In October each year "Annual Global Youth and Safer Cities Days" are planned in different cities, with a range of activities linked to youth participation in the work to increase safety and security.

The cooperation between Fryshuset and UN-Habitat was confirmed today at Fryshuset where UN-Habitat's new Executive Director, Ms Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and Fryshuset's President, Johan Oljeqvist, in the presence of a group of young people from Fryshuset, signed a "Memorandum of Understanding".
