Göteborgs Konsthall Opens at Slakthuset on 20 March 2027

The opening date has been set. On 20 March 2027, Göteborgs Konsthall will open the doors to a new meeting place for contemporary art at Slakthuset in Gamlestaden. The new venue will be more than twice the size of the previous premises and will include larger exhibition spaces, an expanded educational studio, and new spaces for public projects and programmes.

– We have been looking forward to sharing our opening date, so it feels incredibly exciting to finally have it confirmed. This is a major milestone for Göteborgs Konsthall, and we truly look forward to opening the doors to Slakthuset, says Ann-Sofi Roxhage, Director of Göteborgs Konsthall.

With more than double the space – a total of 1,742 square metres dedicated to exhibitions, projects, public programmes and educational activities – Göteborgs Konsthall will have stronger opportunities to present national and international contemporary art. The move to Slakthuset also strengthens Gothenburg’s cultural landscape and Gamlestaden as a growing meeting place.

– Here, both the art and the audience will have more room. With new exhibition spaces, educational environments and the possibility to stay open year-round, we can create more experiences, more conversations and a more vibrant art hall for Gothenburg, says Ann-Sofi Roxhage.

A New Meeting Place for Contemporary Art
Until the opening, Göteborgs Konsthall will continue to organise activities, artistic projects and educational programmes in Gamlestaden and across the city.

– This is about much more than a relocation. We want to open up Göteborgs Konsthall in new ways and create a place where more people can experience curiosity, inspiration and participation through encounters with contemporary art, says Ann-Sofi Roxhage.

Opening Weekend 20–21 March
The inauguration will be celebrated with a large festive opening weekend filled with art experiences and activities on 20–21 March 2027. The opening exhibition will feature internationally acclaimed Danish-Korean artist Jane Jin Kaisen. Portal will be her first solo exhibition in Sweden and will present large-scale video works alongside newly commissioned pieces.

More details about the exhibition and opening programme will be announced closer to the opening.
