Bus company invests in new information system to improve passenger comfort

According to Svensk Kollektivtrafik, the Swedish industry association for public transport, only one in four passengers feel they get enough transport information. In response to this problem, Keolis, a bus company working for Greater Stockholm Public Transport, equipped its buses with a system that uses screens to send real time information on traffic disruptions and journey planning options.

– Passengers want to get travel information continuously during the journey. "The aim of this investment is to encourage more people to choose public transport and, ultimately, to reduce the number of trips made by car," says Karl Orton, Technical Director, Keolis.

The system is supplied by IT company Hogia. It is based on a system with open interfaces that coordinates information flows from different systems and displays it on screens in the buses.

– Hogia's system continuously supplies information about timetables and any changes and disruptions during the journey such as delays, route changes or relocation of bus stops. Passengers also get information about journey planning options.

We hope this service will make public transport smoother and more efficient for passengers," says Bengt Carlsson, business developer for Hogia Public Transport Systems.

Hogia's system has been in operation since November 2014 and is currently used in 120 of Keoli's buses.
