New collaboration required new logistics system

When Logent acquired the shipping company CLdN as a new RO-RO customer, a new type of IT support was needed to ensure the efficient and secure handling of import and export goods within the terminal at the Port of Gothenburg. Logent already had experience of using Hogia systems in other terminals, so it was an obvious choice to deploy a solution from Hogia for this new operation as well.

CLdN's RO-RO vessels sail five times a week from Gothenburg to Zeebrügge in Belgium. Due to the large volumes of goods and cargo units being handled, Logent needed advanced automated system support to ensure secure and efficient handling of the freight.

"Manual data sharing is staff-intensive and increases the risk of errors, but many flows can be automated with the help of Hogia's terminal system," says Mikael Myntti, Manager Strategic Development and Sales at Logent Ports and Terminals.

Several systems performing different functions, and from various suppliers, are active at the terminal in the Port of Gothenburg. For this reason, Hogia's terminal system provides open data exchange interfaces and supports international data exchange standards to ensure seamless data exchange between the different systems. In Logent's case, the terminal system is integrated with CLdN's booking system and the handling systems used by the train operators. This allows the Hogia terminal system to create and execute work orders, invoice documentation, and reports for incoming and outgoing cargo, both within the port and on trains.

"There are several determining factors in this case. For example, it is extremely important to keep track of the units in order to avoid dispatching the wrong goods, to know whether the contents are hazardous, and to allow optimal planning of loading and discharge activities. Not least, it is important to be able to turn the vessel around within the agreed time in the port," concludes Mikael Myntti.
