Den 13e november kommer föreställningen ”Example” av och med dansaren och koreografen Zoë Poluch, till Köttinspektionen Dans i Uppsala. Gästspelet ingår i ett samarbete mellan Köttinspektionen och Tour de Dance, en ny struktur för dans och ett initiativ för att knyta kontakter mellan danskonstnärer och kulturarrangörer utanför storstäderna. Målet är en starkare infrastruktur för dans i hela landet.

I ”Example” ingår alltid platsens historia som en del av verket, då berättelser om platsen som verket uppförs på inkluderas och gör verket platsspecifikt. Verket har också beskrivits som pedagogisk inkörsport till den samtida moderna dansen, då det tar avstamp i sitt förflutna och går igenom mängder av olika stilar och koreografier. Ett verk som kuratorerna för Köttinspektionen Dans, Kajsa Wadhia och Tove Salmgren, hoppas ska få många Uppsalabor att få upp ögonen för modern och samtida dans.

Köttinspektionen Dans möter sin publik fem söndagar under året med programserien Sunday Circles. Programmet är tudelat; dels består det av “koreograferade läsecirklar”, ledda av inbjudna koreografer. Genom koreografernas praktik och blick får vi möjlighet att erfara läsning genom just deras metoder och perspektiv. Dels presenteras varje gång ett dansgästspel med konstnärskap som på olika sätt närmar sig vår samtid med en kritisk blick och som ofta tar till leken och det lekfulla som verktyg för att formulera existentiella och politiska frågeställningar.

Koreograferad läsecirkel

En koreograferad läsecirkel är ett undersökande av hur metoder för dans kan möta metoder för läsning i grupp.
Vi föreslår att läsa tillsammans kan vara att dansa tillsammans, och hur vi dansar struktureras av en koreograf för varje tillfälle. Stina Nyberg leder den femte läsecirkeln och är inbjuden att välja text, metoder och format för experimentet efter sina egna konstnärliga intressen. Att delta i en koreograferad läsecirkel innebär att samtidigt fråga sig vad en sådan händelse är och kan vara. Vi deltar alla med vår nyfikenhet, våra kroppar, våra öron, vår röst, vår blick och våra tankar. Alla som vill är välkomna att delta, inga förberedelser krävs. Det är alltid möjligt att delta som åskådare/lyssnare/vittne eller som läsare/dansare.

STINA NYBERG (SE) kommer ifrån Örnsköldsvik och bor i Stockholm. Hon är utbildad på Balettakademien samt på masterutbildningen i koreografi på DOCH. Hennes arbete utgår från en feministisk syn på kroppen: på dess sociala, biologiska och politiska konstruktion och förmåga att röra på sig. Nyberg har koreograferat The Knifes show Shaking the Habitual och medverkat som dansare på turné under 2012-2014. Nybergs senaste uppdrag är verket Tones & Bones för Cullbergbaletten 2014. Just nu arbetar Nyberg med föreställningen Shapes of States, om relationen mellan en välmående kropp och en välmående samhällskropp. Parallellt med sitt koreografiska arbete deltar Nyberg i det ettåriga programmet Critical Practice – Made in YU, en plattform för skrivande och diskursiva metoder inom det koreografiska fältet.

ZOË POLUCH
“Example”

Zoë Poluch undersöker i sitt danssolo EXAMPLE om det är möjligt att skapa dans som är tidlös. Hur skulle den dansen se ut, smaka, kännas? Det börjar i mörkret och sedan tar Poluch med oss på en resa i imaginära och fiktiva landskap. Koreografimaterialet kommer från flera koreografer från olika generationer, länder och estetiker.

Numera, undrar ZOË POLUCH hur och vad en lokal konstnärlig praktik kan vara, vilket driver henne att försöka tyda vad begreppen ‘lokal’ och ‘praktik’ faktiskt vill. Praktiken i fråga är koreografi, som är det fält hon tog en masterexamen inom på DOCH i Stockholm, 2012. Zoë har inte utvecklat ett distinkt koreografiskt intresse eller en koreografisk signatur, utan experimenterar i stället med olika former av skrivande, dansande, organiserande av symposier, samarbeten och koreograferande. Arbetet dras just nu mot att utmana olika former av samvaro – mer exakt i form av ett platsspecifikt projekt i ett 9-våningshus i en Stockholmsförort, vilket genomförs inom kontexten för post-masterkursen ”Critical Habitats” på Kungliga Konsthögskolan i Stockholm.

Köttinspektionen Dans presents Sunday Circles, a series of five sundays over the year. There are two parts to the programme. It starts with "choreographed reading circles", two hour sessions led by invited choreographers. We get to experience reading through the specific practice, methods and perspective of the invited choreographer. In addition, each Sunday Circle presents a choreographic work, with invited dance artists that use a critical gaze on our contemporary conditions and often use play and playfullness as tools to raise existential and political questions. This time we present ”Example” by Zoë Poluch, in collaboration with Tour de Dance.

Choreographed reading circle

We propose that reading together can be to dance together, and how we dance is structured by a choreographer every session. Stina Nyberg is leading the fifth reading circle and is invited to choose text, methods and format for the experiment according to her own artistic interests. Taking part in a choreographed reading circle involves asking yourself what an event like this is and can be. We all participate with our curiosity, our eyes, our bodies, our voices and our thoughts. Everybody who wants to join is welcome, no preparation is needed. It is always possible to participate as a spectator/listener/witness or as reader/dancer.

STINA NYBERG comes from Örnsköldsvik and lives in Stockholm. She is educated at Balettakademien and holds an MA in choreography at DOCH. Her departure point is always a feminist approach to the body; its social and political construction and ability to move. Nyberg is the choreographer of the live concert Shaking the Habitual by the The Knife and have performed on tour in 2012-2014. Nyberg’s latest commission is a work for the Cullberg Ballet titled Tones & Bones (2014). At the moment, Nyberg is working on the performance Shapes of States, about the relationship between the healthy body and the healthy state. In conjunction to her choreographic practice Nyberg is a participant of the one year programme Critical Practice – Made in YU, a platform for writing and discursive methods within the performing arts.

ZOË POLUCH
“Example”

We know the dance of yesterday and are surrounded by the dance of today, but what must we do to imagine a dance out of time? Where can we find it and what does it look like, or even sound like? Does out of time occupy the future, and if so, are we not already there? ‘Example’ concretizes these questions, invoking the spectator to create choreography in their own mind’s eye. We start in the black, in a dark and cold northern landscape and are promptly re-situated in the stark and actual architectural, historical and geometrical qualities of the precise theatre space. There then follows a journey through an imaginary and fictional landscape that eventually lays the ground, ‘sets’ the stage, so to say, for a dance out of time. After having been persuaded by our individual, discrete visualizations we are finally addressed together by a dance that insists on immediacy.

In an attempt to activate a space or method that exists between the solitary and the collective I initiated a 10 day workspace situation of working alone together and together alone. 4 artists independently pursued activities relevant to each of them in parallel time and space. What surfaced was a specific mutuality and interdependence that was scarce on compromise and negative obligation. And a dance solo. This is it and it is called ‘Example’.

These days, ZOË POLUCH wonders how and what a local practice can be, compelling her to decipher what ‘local’ and ‘practice’ really want. The practice at stake is choreography, the field in which she completed a master’s degree at DOCH, Stockholm in 2012. Zoë has not developed one distinct choreographic interest or signature, but instead experiments with the different shapes of writing, dancing, organizing symposia, performing, collaborating and choreographing. This work is currently attracted to challenging various modes of co-existence – more specifically in the shape of a site-specific project located in a 9-story building in a Stockholm suburb, which is being done in the context of the post-Masters course “Critical Habitats” at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
