    Professor Ilkka Kilpeläinen and Professor Herbert Sixta receives the 2022 Marcus Wallenberg Prize

    The 2022 Marcus Wallenberg Prize of SEK 2 million is awarded to Professor Ilkka Kilpeläinen and Professor Herbert Sixta for the development and use of novel ionic liquids to process wood biomass into high-performance textile fibres. King Carl XVI Gustaf presented the prize on Monday 11 October in Stockholm.

    The Prize a turning point

    Receiving the 2019 Marcus Wallenberg Prize made Gerhard Schickhofer reflect on his career. – It is a situation to think about my work and future, he says. Last October Gerhard Schickhofer received the 2019 Marcus Wallenberg Prize from King Carl XVI Gustaf. The ceremony and following banquet took place in Stockholm, Sweden, with 350 guests from forest industry and forest research worldwide.

    Bumpy road to breakthrough

    Professor Torgny Näsholm received the Marcus Wallenberg Prize 2018 for the discovery that pine, spruce, and other plants can take up different kinds of organic nitrogen from the soil. He has also developed sustainable fertilizers. Torgny Näsholm says that the success is a result of a great teamwork but we would not have succeeded without all the mistakes along the road.

    Krokig väg till stort genombrott

    Professor Torgny Näsholm mottog Marcus Wallenbergpriset 2018 för upptäckten att många växter tar upp olika former av organiskt kväve direkt ur marken. Han har även utvecklat en miljövänlig växtnäring. Torgny Näsholm säger att framgångarna är resultatet av ett fint lagarbete. Men hans forskargrupp har också varit i många återvändsgränder. – Vi hade inte lyckats utan alla misstag, säger han.

    Hans Majestät Konungen delar ut Marcus Wallenbergpriset 2017 på 2 miljoner kronor till professor Ronald R. Sederoff i samband med en högtidlighet i Stockholm torsdag 26 oktober. Ronald R. Sederoff North Carolina State University, USA, belönas för sina banbrytande metoder för att kartlägga gener i olika typer av barrträd. Han har också utvecklat växtförädlingen inom skogsbruket.

    The Marcus Wallenberg Prize 2017 of SEK 2 million will be presented by HM the King of Sweden to professor Ronald R. Sederoff at a ceremony in Stockholm Thursday 26 October. Ronald R. Sederoff, North Carolina State University, USA, is awarded the prize for his breakthroughs in developing methods for gene discovery in conifer species and exploiting new breeding technologies.
