Royal Djurgården Representatives Invited to Shape Global Attraction Criteria

In a testament to its commitment to sustainable tourism, Royal Djurgården proudly announces the invitation of its key representatives, Camilla Zedendahl, CEO of the Royal Djurgården Society, and Jan Naumburg, Sustainability Strategist at the Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums, to join the GSTC Attraction Criteria development process as Advisory Group members, initiated by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

The GSTC Attraction Criteria development process aims to establish global guidelines and criteria for attractions, a sector lacking universally adopted standards and definitions.

Camilla Zedendahl expressed enthusiasm, stating, "We are thrilled to be part of this important process. Taking sustainable tourism seriously, Royal Djurgården, with its array of Sweden's most beloved attractions, is well-positioned to contribute significantly."

Jan Naumburg, representing the Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums with three museums at Royal Djurgården, shared his thoughts, "Being a part of a long-time commitment to sustainability and representing museums, the biggest being the famous Vasa Museum, I am honored to contribute to this initiative. It aligns with our mission to showcase the rich cultural and historical heritage in a sustainably responsible manner."

The initiative seeks to develop sustainable criteria aligned with GSTC's goals, addressing the growing need for global guidelines in sustainable tourism practices for attractions. Currently, no universally accepted standards or definitions exist for attractions, and the GSTC aims to bridge this gap through collaborative efforts.

Royal Djurgården's dedication to sustainability has already been awarded the Green Destinations Platinum Award, making it one of the first metropolitan destinations globally to achieve this accolade. Fulfilling 94 percent of approximately 100 sustainability criteria set by the Green Destinations, Royal Djurgården has become a benchmark for sustainable practices.

Camilla Zedendahl emphasized, "Being an important part of the vibrant Swedish capital of Stockholm, Royal Djurgården offers nature, culture, recreation, and entertainment to over 15 million visitors every year. The 60 attractions working together here want to lead the way for more sustainable tourism and the high sustainable ambitions set by Stockholm. Contributing to shaping the attraction criteria is a responsibility we are honored to take on."

Dr.Mihee Kang, GSTC Global Assurance Director stated, "The GSTC 2024 Conference that will be held at Royal Djurgården in Stockholm, Sweden, will allow stakeholders to contribute to the GSTC Attraction Criteria development through the focused Attraction Criteria Workshop by sharing their experiences, knowledge, concerns, and expectations."

In April the GSTC2024 Global Sustainable Tourism Conference will be held at Royal Djurgården hosted by Visit Sweden and Tillväxtverket in close cooperation with Visit Stockholm and the Royal Djurgården Society and all its attractions.
