Shifo Child Health Accelerator of the Year 2014 awarded to Mukono HC4

Mukono Health Centre IV has been awarded Shifo Child Health Accelerator of the Year 2014. The health centre has been selected based on their outstanding performance, fast adoption of MyChild System and integration of the data and information provided by the system for continuous quality improvement in child health service delivery.

Annet Nantume , the nurse at the child health clinic at Mukono health centre 4, was presented with the Child Health Accelerator Award and Diploma bySarah Katumba, who is the focal person for Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI) of the District Health Team. Annet, who works at one of the busiest health centres in the district, was happily surprised as she accepted the award: "This was fantastic news for me, and I think this is a result of our hard work".

Mukono HC4 has been fast to integrate MyChild System at the Health Centre and make use of the system for improving health service delivery. Dr Geoffrey is the Mukono health centre manager, who has been a pioneer in the implementation of MyChild System, recognising the benefits that it brings to child health service delivery: "Thank you very much for the recognition of our work and long term collaboration. We always try to work to improve results in our community".

Mukono HC4 was among the first health centres to implement MyChild System in January 2014. Mukono HC4 was elected as a result of consistent and outstanding performance. Shahnoza Eshonkhojaeva from Shifo explains:

“Mukono HC4 vaccinated more children than any other health centre in the district per target population, they reached more fully vaccinated children and have integrated MyChild System with lean work processes. The performance of the health centre is outstanding, staff and management are dedicated to improve vaccination coverage and reach every child with preventive health services. We are proud to partner with such a dedicated team”

  • First phase of implementation completed in 16 health centres

    MyChild System is now being used at 16 health centres in Mukono District. This first phase of implementation involved training and installation and has recently been completed. Nurses involved in child health service delivery have been trained and started using the system to register children and follow up on their vaccination plan, both in clinics and during outreach sessions.
