1KM FILM 2025 – Here are the nominees
The next generation of filmmakers are competing in Sweden’s leading short film pitch competition – 1KM FILM 2025. The winner will be announced at the Stockholm International Film Festival’s award ceremony and will receive the prize that holds the value of 400 000 SEK, to bring their vision to life.
Since the very first edition of the Stockholm International Film Festival 36 years ago, promising directors have had the chance to take the stage and pitch their next short film idea to industry professionals and a jury during Stockholm Industry Days. This year also marks the first time that the competition will be held in English, opening the space to the wider international industry.
Over the years, 1 KM FILM has proven to be a reliable indicator of where the future of Swedish cinema is heading, consistently identifying new and talented voices. Previous winners include Ninja Thyberg (Pleasure, 2021), Frida Kempff (The Swedish Torpedo, 2024), as well as Tova Mozard and Jens Jonsson, who are both featured at this year’s festival with the documentary ILOVERUSS and the TV4 series We Come in Peace, respectively. The winner of the 2024 prize was Lode Kuylenstierna for his upcoming short film Den osmidige.
This year’s nominees are:
- Adam Starsmark for the project Färjan från Valhalla
- Balder Ljunggren for the project LOUD
- Dea Saračević for the project Silence
- Dennis Harvey for the project The Government Position on the Ongoing Refusal to Provide Accommodation to all International Protection Applicants
- Johan Stavsjö for the project Work Ethics
- Sergey Vasiliev for the project Orientering 92
- Vera Sjunnesson for the project Badkar
–There’s probably nothing worse than standing in front of an audience and pitching your film, but at the same time, it’s perhaps the best thing you can put yourself and your project through. I’m glad that 1KM FILM challenges you to take your project to its limits. In that moment, your film idea truly begins to exist within the industry, and a collective energy starts to grow. There, with the award, I felt a positive sense of responsibility. Winning gave me the confidence to dive deeply into my own voice, into my faiblesse with people who lack a moral compass – and the realization of how important personal storytelling is, especially for new filmmakers, as it becomes their way of introducing themselves to the industry, says Lode Kuylenstierna, winner of 1KM FILM 2024.
The seven nominated directors will also have their previous short films screened in front of an audience during the festival, as well as being invited to exclusive masterclasses with famous directors. Stockholm Industry Days 2025 takes place between November 10–13.
The total value of the 1 KM FILM 2025 prize is 400,000 SEK, which will go towards the creation of the new short film. The prize is supported by the Swedish Film Institute, Film Stockholm, Storyline, Tint, Ponytail, the Union for Performing Arts & Film, and Fyra K Media.
