Invitation to a Press Conference with Sam Mendes

The Stockholm International Film Festival invites accredited journalists to a press conference with the award-winning British director Sam Mendes on November 11.

Sam Mendes is this year's recipient of the Stockholm Visionary Award and is visiting Stockholm in connection with his film Empire of Light (2022), which will have its Nordic premiere during Stockholm Film Festival. Accredited journalists have the opportunity to attend the press conference with Mendes. The press conference will take place on Friday November 11, at 09.30 am in central Stockholm, location to be announced the day before. The conference will be moderated by producer and moderator Andrea Reuter.

RSVP to: pressekreterare@stockholmfilmfestival.se

To attend the press conference, you must have a press accreditation. Apply for accreditation here.

Note that there is a limited amount of spots for the press conference.

Mendes will visit the Skandia Cinema in Stockholm on the same day at 6.00 pm to receive the Bronze Horse and participate in a Face2Face moderated by film critic Jakob Åsell.

Sam Mendes had his debut with the film American Beauty (1999), which was awarded no less than five Academy awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Mendes' last film, the war drama 1917 (2019), was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won three. The film won awards for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing and Best Cinematography. Mendes has also made his mark in theater and has been awarded prestigious prizes such as the Laurence Olivier Award. The intersection of performing arts and film undeniably seems to enrich his craft.

His new film, Empire of Light is a love letter to the cinema set in and around a faded old cinema in an English costal town in the early 1980s. It follows Hilary (Colman) a cinema manager struggling with her mental health and Stephen (Ward), a new employee who longs to escape this provincial town in which he faces daily adversity.
