Record-Breaking Attendance During Five Magical Movie Nights: Sommarbio in Stockholm Attracted 86,000 Visitors

Stockholm International Film Festival's belowed outdoor cinema, Sommarbio, broke attendance records for the fourth year in a row, with a total of 86,000 festival visitors. On the closing night, Sunday 17 August, the event also reached a new milestone when 16,000 people gathered to watch the 90s classic 10 Things I Hate About You – an all-time high for a single film screening at Sommarbio.

This year's edition of Sommarbio was once again a great success. For five evenings, from 13 to 17 August, Rålambshovsparken, one of Stockholm's most central parks, was filled with film lovers – and the event continues its position as Europe's largest and most beloved outdoor cinema experience.

In addition to film screenings, the outdoor cinema offered live music, DJ's and each film was presented by directors and actors such as the 2022 Cannes Winner for Best Screenplay Tarik Saleh, who's new film Eagles of the Republic will open this year's Stockholm International Film Festival and 2024 Rising Star Award winner Erik Svedberg-Zelman who also starred in the critically acclaimed TV series The Helicopter Heist.

‘We are incredibly proud to see how Sommarbio continues to grow and engage,’ says Magnus Larsson, Head of Marketing Stockholm International Film Festival. ‘It's a unique experience to share films under the open sky with so many people – it's magical every year.’

Today, Sommarbio is a natural part of Stockholm's cultural summer, with both local roots and strong international appeal.

Next on the agenda: Stockholm International Film Festival in November 5-16

This year's festival will take place from 5 to 16 November, and tickets are already on sale for the opening film Eagles of the Republic – one of the most eagerly awaited film premieres of the year. More films for the autumn festival will be announced throughout the autumn.
