Standing ovations at Stockholm Film Festival Junior opening

Stockholm Film Festival Junior opened yesterday its second year running hybrid festival with a packed theater and the opening film Where is Anne Frank by Ari Folman. The film received standing ovations from enthusiastic kids, happy to be back in theaters.

Stockholm Film Festival Junior was inaugurated yesterday by the festival’s Junior Group, who are also the jury deciding this year’s Bronze Horse winners of Best film in the age categories 6-10 and 11-19. The opening film at the festival Where is Anne Frank, directed by award winning Ari Folman, was met with a standing ovation.

During the week films will be shown digitally at the festival's streming platform Festival on Demand so viewers all over Sweden can take part of the program, and at cinemas around Stockholm. At this stage the films at the festival will be seen by 50 000 kids, from Haparanda in the north to Malmö in the south.

Stockholm Film Festival was one of the first festivals to express its support for Ukraine by announcing the country will be in focus at the festival in November. During Stockholm Film Festival Junior, a special screening of Gulliver Returns will be arranged for Ukrainian children and their families on the 30th of March. The film is based on an idea by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyj and at the special screening the film will be presented by Sweden’s minister of Culture, Jeanette Gustafsdotter. The festival will also provide breakfast and the film will be shown with Ukrainian dialougue.
