Studiefrämjandet Musik presenterar Nemis showcase under Reeperbahn Music Festival i Hamburg

I samarbete med liveklubben Kick-Start i Malmö och Export Music Sweden presenterar Studiefrämjandet "Nemis - New Music In Sweden" ett showcase på Reeperbahn Music Festival, en festival i Hamburg, Tyskland med fokus på nya artister. Festivalen pågår 20-22 september.

Mer än 200 artister väntas spela på festivalen i Hamburg och ca 2000 representanter från den internationella musikbranchen kommer att närvara.

– Vi följer upp förra årets succé på Popkomm-festivalen i Berlin med att göra en scen på Reeperbahn Music Festival i Hamburg i år, säger Burt von Bolton musikhandläggare på Studiefrämjandet.

Bandet State of Grace från Heby var ett av de band som spelade på Popkomm-festivalen i Tyskland förra året.

– Spelningen i Tyskland förra året ledde till ett stort förlagskontrakt för bandet worldvide. Detta mycket tack vare Studiefrämjandets roll i att presentera bandet på en internationell scen, berättar Ulrika Holmberg, A&R ansvarig Musichelp.se.

Burt von Bolton musikhandläggare på Studiefrämjandet hoppas att även årets deltagande i en tysk festival ska ge framtida möjigheter för de medverkande banden. Han är väldigt nöjd med att hela 6 band och artister från Sverige ska uppträda på festivalen:

– Det känns helt rätt att närvara på Reeperbahn Music Festival som är så mycket mer än bara en musikfestival. Alltifrån konst och film till föreläsningar, showcases, konserter och nätverkande samlas under ett och samma tak.

Torsdagen den 20 september ställer sig alltså 6 av Sveriges just nu bästa band och artister på scenen i Planet Pauli på Reeperbahn Music Festival i Hamburg.

Nemis står för New Music In Sweden och är Studiefrämjandets satsning för att ge oetablerade band och artister speltillfällen på landets bästa scener och festivaler.

DIAL M FOR MURDER
“Oh No!” is still one of THE Indie dancefloor hymns. Although it got fairly quiet around the Swedish duo Dial M for Murder!, we still haven’t forgotten about them. Last summer the guys shared some songs of their hopefully soon to be released second record over the internet. It still is the same dark atmosphere paired with this voice that you can’t possibly forget. “The soundtrack for that gritty black and white film that will haunt you!” wrote notes in 2009 and yes, it still describes their music quite well. Of course, the singer’s voice is reminiscent of Interpol’s frontman Paul Banks but that’s about the only thing the two have in common. What makes the Dial M For Murder! so special is their raw power which is the essence of this rough diamond. Without it’s edges it would just be one of many. They maintain this imperfect perfection, so they will never drown in the back of our heads. It’s about time to catapult them back onto the top of the dusty piles in our minds!

TINY BOYS
Tiny Boys debut album will hit the German stores just after the Reeperbahn Festival. You should listen to them now, though. This Girl/Girl/Boy/Boy quartet from Stockholm could be one of the most important discoveries of this year's festival: They play with a passion and give all your bottled-up emotions a much needed reason to be danced away. Musically they oscillate between Indie-Rock and 80s Post-Punk.

KARIN PARK
When a tiger dreams, brutal images might cross his mind. Wild animals speeding across the battlefield of nature. “I am a hunter in the dark, always hungry” sings Karin Park in “Tiger Dreams”. The song could also serve as a metaphor for the typical hunting game of the sexes in nightclubs. On her new album “Highwire Poetry” the Swedish-born singer designs an intensive Dubstep based Synthie-Pop-Sound. The dramatic waves are reminiscent of Fever Ray and the live performances evoke a young Björk. Karin Park lives in Oslo as well as in the 400-souls-village of Djura where she was brought up and now lives in a church. She was raised strictly religious and was even taught at a Japanese missionary school for three years. So it doesn’t surprise that Karin Park likes to flirt with Goth-Pop on “Highwire Poetry”. But different to similar bands, she combines her creations with a very strong electronic side. Dark topics turn into bright Pop melodies. Whether you dance as powerful as a tiger or as scared as its prey is up to you.

THE CAT KILLERS
Honestly, The CatKillers sound like a Yeah Yeah Yeahs version of Blondie and - let's cross your heart and be honest - we've been waiting for this! Blondie is too mainstream and Yeag Yeah Yeahs tend to be overcomplicated. This quartet from Gothenburg makes excessive Pop tunes like "Dance" which makes you either want to randomly destroy things or dance like there's no tomorrow. With swinging hips and roundhouse kicks. Let's think of a genre for Bea, Rat, Hampus, Marie and their fantastic sound: well, The CatKillers have to be labelled RIOTPOP. That nails it!

MF/MB/
It's only a question of time until MF/MB/ will be huge Rock stars. The band from the small Swedish town Bollnäs presents a very powerful and epic sound on their debut album "Folded" from 2010. The music feels amazingly free - it makes you want to run through abandoned forests or scream your lungs out on a high cliff. No wonder their songs are featured in American TV shows and snowboard films. MF/MB are reminiscent of the Editors but with a subtler use of Electronica and less vocal drama. Songs like "1000 Times" are densely layered, danceable and very strong. It almost sounds as if New Wave melted into dark Electro and Heavy Rock. They will present some brand new songs from their new album due to be released in 2013.

SATAN TAKES A HOLIDAY
Apart from being the High Priest of the Church Of Satan, Anton LaVey was also a musician. One of his weird occult synthesizer albums is simply called "Satan Takes A Holiday". Just like a band from Stockholm. They don't play satanic Deathmetal but have everything the American Bible Belt is scared of: Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll. Mixed with a good sense for self irony Big Fred, Schwantz and Grizzly Turner play strong Rock that feels like a sweaty night in a tequila bar with snakes, strippers and earthy sixties music. In the beginning there was the guitar riff and the guitar riff was made by satan. And should he be unavailable we've got this unholy trinity with their alcohol drenched songs!
