Vilks will complete interrupted lecture at Uppsala University

The Department of Philosophy at Uppsala University has decided to invite the artist Lars Vilks during the fall term, provided that all arrangements can be decided upon by the University  and the local police in order to secure that the lecture can be held in an orderly fashion.

“The Department has reached a wise decision. Lars Vilks must be allowed to hold his lecture”, says Anders Hallberg, Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University.

Earlier this month, Lars Vilks’s lecture on the freedom of speech and art was interrupted as the artist was attacked. Violence and threats of violence cannot be allowed to silence people, not on campus or elsewhere. The Department of Philosophy at Uppsala University has therefore decided to invite Lars Vilks to complete the lecture. Vilks has accepted the invitation.

Place and time are yet to be decided. A new security assessment will be made by the University Security Staff and police.
